Male Extra Review
Launched back in 2009, Male Extra is the all-natural option for those who need some extra performance in the bedroom. It’s undergone some ingredient changes in the past decade but we’re reviewing Male Extra as it is right now, in the 2019/2020-time frame. Male Extra enhancement pills claim to give you bigger erections that last for longer, which will have the added effect of improving the intensity of your orgasms and giving you a boost to your confidence and stamina.
Claiming to have sold more than twelve million of these pills, we’ve decided to put them to the test. We’ll be breaking down the Male Extra experience into sections, those being a review of its packaging and the pill bottle they come in, a scientific breakdown of the ingredients used in the pills themselves and what they do to enhance your sexual health, as well as the side effects of those ingredients so you can see some of the outcomes of using Male Extra.
Packaging and Pill Bottle
These pills arrive in a brown cardboard box that has no identifying marks, making it discreet. This is to be expected with these types of products but it’s a reassuring detail, nonetheless, particularly for new users who aren’t sure what they’re getting themselves into.
As for the pill bottle, it was once blue but has now taken on a black coloring, which definitely makes it less eye-catching and more suitable for the adult nature of these pills. You get all the information you’ll need from the product label, which is more than can be said for some of the more unsavory brands, with it specifying that you should find ninety pills in the bottle.
Then there’s the serving size at three pills, what time of day you should be taking them, which is either in the morning or with a main meal, and an ingredients and side effects breakdown. We won’t get into those right here; they have their own sections below. Opening the bottle should show you a paper seal, reassuring you that they haven’t been tampered with.
Once you’re past that, you’ll see the pills themselves are a light, pastel blue color and are totally taste and odor-free. Breaking the pill in half reveals where the magic happens, a brown and white coarse powder made from the ground and refined ingredients list. They measure in at under two centimeters in length, so they aren’t the smallest male enhancement pills out there but should still be easy to swallow.

As we said at the start, these ingredients are all-natural, though we are suspicious of the light blue coloring of those pill capsules and whether that’s natural or artificial. For some, even the slightest of artificial coloring can set off allergies, so this is something prospective customers should pay attention to.
Before we get into a one by one breakdown of these ingredients and what they do for your body, we should add that if you notice any side effects or are on other medications then you’ll want to speak to a medical professional before continuing these supplements.
L-Arginine Hydrochloride
Often shortened to HCl, L-Arginine Hydrochloride is widely used since it’s able to convert amino acids into nitric oxide. When ingested into the system, L-Arginine HCl does facilitate the creation of free radicals, which aren’t ideal for a healthy body, but what we really want to know is how it performs below the belt.
L-Arginine HCl opens up blood vessels, widening them so that more blood can transport around your body in a shorter period of time. This means that, when you get an erection, more blood will reach the penis and your erections will be thicker and harder.
This is great for alleviating erectile dysfunction or performance anxiety, so it’s no surprise that this is the main ingredient of these enhancement pills. There’s a reason to grab these even if you don’t have impotence issues, since those larger erections aren’t only likely to last longer but will also translate into more intense orgasms when you do reach the all-important climax.
600mg is considered a high dosage, so you should be on the lookout for side effects. The most common of these is bloating, low blood pressure, abdominal pain, and/or diarrhea, though you should pay attention to any other unusual and persistent symptoms since they could also be down to the supplements you’re using.
That increased blood flow will also cause lightheadedness in some, especially those on blood thinning medication or blood clotting agents. Because of this, we’ll reiterate that you should get the advice of your local medical expert if you’re on medication.
Pomegranate 20:1 Extract (40% Ellagic Acid)
The second most prominent ingredient in these pills is pomegranate extract. It’s not found in most other male enhancement pills on the market but has been on the Male Extra ingredients’ list from the start, so it seems to be what sets these supplements apart from everybody else’s.
Taken from the seeds of the pomegranate fruit, it’s refined and purified into a focused 20:1 ratio of extract that acts as a well-needed shot of antioxidants into your system. Pomegranate is nutritionally rich anyway, so the inclusion of them is most welcome, but they also have riboflavin and thiamin which have been included in other male enhancements in the past because of the added boost they give you.
This means that you’re getting even more beneficial nutrients through this ingredient. Pomegranate juice has been used as an infertility remedy for a while now. This extract not only includes antioxidant nutrients that nourish the skin and halt the signs of aging, but like L-Arginine HCl, it increases blood flow to have quite the same effects in the bedroom.
MSM, or Methyl Sulfonyl Methane
MSM is also a powerful anti-inflammatory, like pomegranate, that is found in medications given to those with arthritis or those that need to recover muscle. It’s also handy for improving the state of your nails and hair, but the main focus of MSM is that it’ll inspire the growth of healthy new cells in your penis.
Along with the improved circulation that the previous ingredients promote, it should allow your penis to grow and adapt to the higher blood volume to make thicker, more engorged erections more consistent.
100mg is a relatively small dosage, so you won’t have to worry too much about side effects here. That said, the warning about discontinuing these supplements should you notice any unwelcome changes is still relevant.
L-Methionine
L-Methionine is an amino acid, so it helps protein production in our body, but aside from that, it’s one of the more passive nutrients that works in the background to keep us healthy. It needs to be balanced in our bodies, and when you do have good amounts of Methionine in your system your body will be better at detoxing, your digestive tract will be healthier, and your immune system will be bolstered. Issues with toxins in the body, digestion, or your immune system can be precursors to weak erections, so think of this as more of a preventative nutrient to keep you healthy so that the heavy-hitting nutrients above can add on top of it.
L-Methionine in particular also blocks histamines, which have been linked to faster ejaculation when you have an abundance of them. The scientific evidence for this claim is patchy but the Methionine in these pills isn’t the main focal ingredient, and at a small 100mg dose it’s sure to have no direct side effects. It can decrease your B12 and folic acid levels once taken regularly, so if you have deficiencies here, you’ll want to consult a medical professional.
Zinc as Citrate
Zinc is one of the quintessential nutrients that everything from superfoods to supplements have packed into them. This makes it a staple for male enhancement pills, too, because zinc regulates your testosterone levels. When your testosterone levels are too low your libido will suffer, which can reduce the motility of your sperm and leave you less likely to achieve a successful erection.
Zinc also keeps your bones and muscles healthy, as well as the prostate gland which is instrumental to semen production and orgasming. Studies have conclusively determined that a low-zinc diet reduces the amount of testosterone in young men. Elderly men have also had improved testosterone levels after being introduced to a high-zinc diet, which combated erectile dysfunction.
Cordyceps Mushroom Powder
Cordyceps have an interesting place in pop culture, being known as that fungus that takes over insects and puppets them around, but in East Asia, they’re known for their medicinal qualities. They have been used by the Chinese for centuries but nowadays we can produce them en masse and, despite only being present by 25mg in your Male Extra supplements, it’s an incredibly potent ingredient that you’ll find in many male enhancement formulas.
Cordyceps is a family of shrooms and fungus, though there’s no mention of which one, in particular, has been used in Male Extra supplements. Cordyceps in modern medicine are used for two reasons, either your kidneys are in need of repair or, you guessed it, to resolve problems with men’s sexual health. They thin your blood and aid in the release of testosterone, too, hence why they’re used for male enhancement. It is also a powerful antioxidant that fights aging.
Vitamins B3 (Nicotinamide)
Whilst Vitamin B3 can be found in MSM, one of the other ingredients in Male Extra, there’s also a 19mg boost in these pills. To be more specific, it’s a boost of nicotinamide, or niacin, which allows your body to make more efficient use of energy. It also combats high cholesterol levels which can reduce blood flow in the human body, limiting your erections.
As established, you need good blood circulation to get the best erection possible, so vitamin B3 has been used alongside other nutrients to combat erectile dysfunction in the past. As for possible side effects, the 19mg in these pills is just over half of the 35mg daily allowance should be safe but headaches and nausea can be a sign that you should consult a medical professional.
