French presidential favourite Nicolas Sarkozy came out firmly on top after a crucial televised debate with his Socialist rival, Ségolène Royal, according to a poll published this morning.

Segolene aggressiva. Nella prima ora di dibattito, Royal si mostra più aggressiva rispetto all'avversario, che tuttavia mantiene la calma, e punta su professionalità e competenza. Lei, più volte monopolizza il confronto, tenendo la parola per un tempo maggiore, interrompendolo, guardandolo sempre dritto negli occhi.

She accused him of playing the compassion card even though his government had not delivered needed services, indignantly telling him he had described the plight of handicapped children “with a tear in your eye.”
